Our 16 Day Italy & Croatia itinerary follows the Mediterranean south through Italy before crossing the Adriatic into Croatia’s coastal regions and islands. Starting in Rome and finishing in Zagreb, the journey includes Roman landmarks, Naples street food, Amalfi Coast villages, private boat trips around Capri and Dubrovnik, Venetian canals, Croatian island towns, waterfall national parks, and long stretches of coastline along the Adriatic Sea.

Day 1: Rome Arrival & Historic Center

Day 1 description

After arriving in Rome, your private guide will meet you at the airport and transfer you into the city to begin your trip through Italy and Croatia. Once checked into your hotel, head out into the historic center for a relaxed first afternoon in the city.

Walk through areas around Piazza Navona, the Pantheon, and Campo de’ Fiori while stopping at cafés, wine bars, and smaller local streets along the way. The route gives you an easy introduction to Rome before the larger sightseeing days begin.

The evening includes dinner in one of the city’s traditional Roman neighborhoods before returning to your accommodation.

Day 2: Colosseum & Vatican City

Day 2 description

Begin the morning with a guided tour of the Colosseum before continuing around the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. Exploring Ancient Rome with a guide helps make the huge archaeological areas easier to follow while bringing the history of the Roman Empire into the experience.

Later in the afternoon, continue into Vatican City to visit St Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican Museums, including the Sistine Chapel.

Finish the evening in Trastevere, where narrow streets, restaurants, bakeries, and wine bars create a much more local atmosphere compared to the main tourist areas.

Day 3: Rome to Naples

Day 3 description

Your private driver will collect you from Rome this morning before continuing south toward Naples in your luxury vehicle. Along the way, stop in the hill town of Cassino for coffee and views across the surrounding countryside near the famous Monte Cassino Abbey before continuing onward to Naples later in the day. 

After arriving, head into Naples’ historic center around Spaccanapoli, where churches, local markets, street food stalls, and narrow alleyways fill the old city.

The afternoon includes a guided pizza tasting experience featuring traditional Neapolitan pizza before an evening walk along the waterfront near Castel dell’Ovo.

Day 4: Amalfi Coast Touring

Day 4 description

Your private driver and guide will take you along the Amalfi Coast this morning, following one of Italy’s most famous coastal roads. The route winds through cliffside towns, lemon groves, mountain roads, and sea views throughout the day.

The first stop is Positano, where you’ll have time to walk through the town’s narrow streets down toward the beach, passing local boutiques, cafés, and small terraces overlooking the sea. After time in Positano, continue to Amalfi for lunch near the cathedral and waterfront before driving higher into the hills toward Ravello. 

In Ravello, visit the gardens at Villa Rufolo and stop at the panoramic terraces overlooking the coastline before returning to your hotel later in the evening.

Day 5: Capri Private Boat Tour

Day 5 description

Head out by private boat this morning for a full day around Capri and the surrounding coastline. Traveling around the island by boat gives you access to smaller coves, sea caves, rock formations, and swimming spots that are difficult to reach by land.

The route passes the Faraglioni rocks and Blue Grotto area before stopping near Marina Piccola for a time beside the water.

After arriving on the island, continue into Capri town, where smaller streets, cafés, gardens, and viewpoints overlook the coastline before returning by boat later in the afternoon.

Day 6: Amalfi Coast to Venice

Day 6 description

On your 6th day, you’ll depart the breathtaking Amalfi Coast for a journey to one of the most romantic places in Italy, Venice. Your driver will drop you off at the train station, and you’ll be met on arrival by your new driver. 

After transferring into the historic center by boat, begin exploring Venice through smaller canals and narrow streets before reaching the Rialto Bridge and the Grand Canal.

The evening is left relaxed, so you can enjoy dinner beside the canals and experience Venice after many of the daytime crowds begin to leave.

Day 7: Murano & Burano Islands

Day 7 description

On day 7, you’ll head out into the Venetian Lagoon by private boat with your guide to explore Murano and Burano Island. 

Begin in Murano, where you’ll visit a working glass workshop to watch Venetian glassmakers using traditional techniques that have been passed down for generations.

Continue onward to Burano, where brightly painted houses line the canals and smaller bridges connect the island’s neighborhoods. Spend time walking through the quieter streets and waterfront areas before returning to Venice later in the afternoon.

Day 8: Venice to Dubrovnik

Fly from Venice to Dubrovnik today, where your Croatian guide will meet you on arrival and transfer you to the Old Town.

After checking into your hotel, begin exploring Dubrovnik’s historic center, including Stradun, the city walls, and the stone streets running through the old town.

The evening includes dinner overlooking the Adriatic before returning to your accommodation.

Day 9: Dubrovnik Adriatic Boat Tour

Day 9 description

Head out from Dubrovnik this morning by private boat to explore part of the Adriatic coastline and nearby islands with your skipper and guide. Leaving the Old Town behind by water gives you a completely different view of Dubrovnik’s stone walls and coastline before continuing toward quieter parts of the region.

The first stop is Lokrum Island, where you’ll have time to walk through the pine forests, visit the monastery ruins, and swim from the rocky shoreline before continuing further along the coast. Throughout the boat journey, there will also be opportunities to stop at smaller coves and swimming spots that are difficult to reach by road.

Later in the afternoon, continue cruising between smaller islands and coastal viewpoints with drinks and time to relax onboard before returning to Dubrovnik in the evening. Once back in the city, your guide can recommend restaurants around the harbor or Old Town for dinner beside the water.

Day 10: Dubrovnik to Split

Day 10 description

Leave Dubrovnik this morning and continue north toward Split with your private driver and guide along one of the most scenic coastal routes in Croatia. Much of the drive follows the Adriatic coastline, with the road winding past small harbor towns, rocky beaches, mountain scenery, and long stretches of open sea views.

Along the way, stop at a few coastal viewpoints and smaller seaside towns where you can take a break, walk along the waterfront, and enjoy lunch beside the water before continuing onward to Split later in the afternoon.

After arriving, explore Diocletian’s Palace and the surrounding old town before dinner along Split’s waterfront promenade.

Day 11: Hvar Island Day Trip

Day 11 description

Travel by catamaran from Split to Hvar this morning, where your guide will meet you on arrival.

Spend the day exploring Hvar Town, including the harbor, hilltop fortress, waterfront promenade, and smaller side streets filled with cafés and local restaurants.

There’s also time to stop at viewpoints overlooking the Pakleni Islands before returning to Split later in the afternoon.

Day 12: Krka National Park & Wine Region

Day 12 description

Your private driver will collect you from Split this morning before heading inland toward Krka National Park. 

The route leaves the Adriatic coastline behind and passes through smaller Croatian villages, vineyard areas, and open countryside as you make your way toward one of the country’s best-known national parks. Walk through sections of the national park using the wooden pathways that pass waterfalls, rivers, and forest areas throughout the reserve.

Later in the afternoon, continue to a local Croatian winery where you’ll sample regional wines before returning to Split for the evening.

Day 13: Split to Zadar

Day 13 description

Continue north along the Dalmatian Coast toward Zadar with your private guide. 

After arriving in Zadar, head into the Old Town with your guide to explore the historic center built on a small peninsula surrounded by the Adriatic. Walk through the Roman Forum area, visit churches including St Donatus, and continue along the stone streets and smaller squares that run through the old city.

Later, make your way to the waterfront promenade to see the Sea Organ, one of Zadar’s most unusual landmarks, where waves moving beneath the steps create music through hidden pipes built into the shoreline. Nearby, stop at the Monument to the Sun before spending the evening around the harbor and waterfront restaurants.

Day 14: Plitvice Lakes National Park

Your private driver will collect you this morning before continuing inland toward Plitvice Lakes National Park, one of Croatia’s best-known natural areas.

Spend the day exploring the lakes and waterfalls using the park’s wooden walking routes and boat crossings connecting different sections of the reserve.

The route through the park passes turquoise lakes, forest trails, and waterfall viewpoints before continuing onward to your accommodation later in the day.

Day 15: Zagreb Historic Center

Day 15 description

Leave Plitvice behind this morning and continue north toward Zagreb with your private driver and guide. The route passes through the central Croatian countryside and smaller local towns before arriving in the capital later in the afternoon. 

You’ll have time to explore Ban Jelačić Square, Dolac Market, and the Upper Town, where churches, cafés, museums, and historic streets give a completely different atmosphere from the coastal regions earlier in the trip.

The final evening is spent enjoying dinner in one of Zagreb’s local neighborhoods before returning to your accommodation.
