14 Day Italy & Switzerland Private Tour

After arriving in Rome, your private guide will meet you at the airport and transfer you into the city to begin your journey through Italy and Switzerland. Once checked into your accommodation, head out for a relaxed first afternoon exploring the historic center on foot.

Spend time around Piazza Navona, the Pantheon, and the surrounding streets while stopping for coffee, wine, or gelato along the way. The area gives a good introduction to Rome, with fountains, churches, cafés, and busy piazzas all close together.

The first day is intentionally kept fairly relaxed after your flight, allowing time to settle in before the main sightseeing begins.

Your private guide will take you into the center of Ancient Rome for a guided visit to the Colosseum. Exploring with a guide helps make the history easier to follow while bringing the stories of gladiators, emperors, and public life in Ancient Rome into the experience.

After visiting the Colosseum, continue around the surrounding ruins with views across the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill before heading back toward the city center.

The afternoon stays flexible depending on your pace, with time for lunch, cafés, shorter walking routes, or more sightseeing around Rome before dinner.

On day 3, your driver will drop you off at the train station, where you’ll board the high-speed train to Bologna, known for its food culture. 

Spend the afternoon walking through the historic center around Piazza Maggiore, food markets, and the older streets lined with cafés and traditional restaurants. Emilia-Romagna is known for fresh pasta, cured meats, Parmesan cheese, and balsamic vinegar, making Bologna one of Italy’s best cities for food.

The evening is left relaxed, so you can enjoy dinner in one of the city’s traditional trattorias before returning to your accommodation.

Leave Bologna behind and continue toward Verona before reaching Lake Garda later in the day. Spend time exploring Verona’s historic center with your guide, including the Roman Arena, piazzas, and surrounding streets filled with cafés and local shops.

After lunch, continue north toward Lake Garda, where the scenery changes from city streets to mountain-backed lakeside towns and waterfront promenades.

Depending on timing, there may be time to stop in smaller towns along the lake before settling into your accommodation near the water for the evening.

Spend the day exploring different parts of Lake Garda with your private guide. Begin in Sirmione, where narrow streets lead through the old town toward the lakefront and castle area. The town sits on a small peninsula surrounded by water, making it one of the most scenic spots around the lake.

Later in the day, head out onto the lake by private boat. Seeing Lake Garda from the water gives a completely different perspective, with mountain scenery, waterfront villas, ferry towns, and small harbors spread along the shoreline. The boat journey also breaks up the day nicely, allowing time to slow down and enjoy the scenery rather than constantly moving between stops by road.

After the boat trip, continue north toward Malcesine, where steep mountain backdrops rise directly above the lakefront. Spend time around the harbor, cafés, and smaller streets before returning to your accommodation later in the evening.

Your private driver and guide will collect you from Lake Garda this morning before continuing east toward Venice in your luxury vehicle. The route crosses Northern Italy through changing countryside, passing vineyards, smaller local towns, roadside cafés, and wide agricultural plains before reaching the Venetian Lagoon later in the day. From here, transfer to Venice by boat and continue through the canals toward the historic center. 

After checking into your accommodation, begin exploring Venice on foot through smaller canals and quieter streets before reaching the Rialto Bridge and the Grand Canal.

The evening is left open so you can enjoy dinner beside the canals and experience Venice after many of the daytime crowds begin to leave.

Head out into the Venetian Lagoon by private boat with your guide to explore Murano and Burano.

Start in Murano, where you’ll visit a working glass workshop to watch Venetian glassmakers shaping and blowing glass using traditional techniques that have been passed down for generations.

Continue onward to Burano, where brightly painted houses line the canals and smaller bridges connect the island’s neighborhoods. Spend time walking through the quieter streets, stopping at cafés, bakeries, and waterfront areas before returning to Venice later in the afternoon.

On day 8, you’ll depart Venice and head north into the Dolomites with your private driver and guide. 

The first major stop is Cortina d’Ampezzo, one of the Dolomites’ best-known mountain towns. Spend time walking through the center where cafés, outdoor shops, and chalet-style buildings sit beneath the surrounding peaks. The town has a relaxed alpine atmosphere and works well as a base for exploring the region.

After lunch, continue further into the Dolomites toward Lake Misurina, where you’ll stop beside the water for views across the surrounding peaks and toward Tre Cime di Lavaredo. There’s time to walk part of the lakeside trail, stop for photos, and enjoy the mountain scenery before continuing along the surrounding roads and viewpoints nearby. 

Throughout the afternoon, your guide will take you along some of the Dolomites’ scenic mountain roads with stops at viewpoints, mountain passes, and smaller alpine villages before arriving at your accommodation for the evening.

Your private driver and guide will take you deeper into the Dolomites this morning, beginning in Ortisei, a traditional alpine town in Val Gardena surrounded by forests and mountain peaks. After time walking through the village, take the cable car up toward the Seceda ridgeline, where panoramic walking trails and viewpoints look out across the surrounding mountains.

From here, continue toward Alpe di Siusi, where open mountain pastureland stretches beneath the surrounding peaks. After arriving, follow one of the easier walking routes across the plateau past wooden huts, grazing fields, and panoramic viewpoints before returning down into the valley later in the afternoon. 

Throughout the route, your guide will continue along some of the Dolomites’ mountain roads and passes with additional stops in smaller alpine villages and scenic viewpoints before returning to your accommodation in the evening.

Continue west across Northern Italy toward Lake Como, where steep mountains meet the lakefront towns and villages spread around the shoreline.

After arriving, spend time in Bellagio exploring the waterfront, narrow streets, and hillside lanes lined with cafés, gardens, and small hotels overlooking the lake.

The afternoon stays relaxed with time for ferry crossings, lakeside walking, or simply enjoying the atmosphere around the water before dinner.

Cross from Italy into Switzerland as the route moves deeper into the Alps. Mountain scenery gradually replaces the lakeside towns as you continue north toward Interlaken.

Along the way, your guide will help manage the transition between Italy and Switzerland while allowing time for scenic stops through the mountain regions.

After arriving in Interlaken, spend the evening exploring the town and the surrounding lake areas before settling into your accommodation.

Your private guide will take you into the Jungfrau region using Switzerland’s mountain rail network, beginning in Lauterbrunnen, where sheer cliffs and waterfalls rise above the valley floor. After time walking through the village, continue by train toward Grindelwald, passing alpine meadows, mountain farms, and small railway stations along the route.

Once in Grindelwald, there’s time to explore the village center, stop for lunch, and walk some of the easier mountain paths with views toward the surrounding peaks before returning later in the afternoon.

The day is designed to move slowly, allowing time to enjoy the scenery rather than rushing between sightseeing stops.

Leave the mountain regions behind and continue toward Lucerne, where lakeside promenades, painted buildings, and covered bridges give the city a completely different atmosphere from the Alps.

Spend time around Chapel Bridge and the Old Town before continuing onward to Zurich later in the afternoon.

After arriving in Zurich, explore parts of the historic center and lakefront with your guide before your final evening of the trip.

Before your airport transfer, enjoy some final time in Zurich with a relaxed walk through the Old Town or along the lakefront near the city center. Your private guide will then transfer you to the airport for your departure flight.
